Privacy Policy for GitZip Pro

Last updated: July 17, 2026

This Privacy Policy applies to the GitZip Pro browser extension and this website.

GitZip Pro is designed to keep settings and download activity in your browser. Repository files are fetched from GitHub and packaged into ZIP archives on your device.

Data Stored on Your Device

GitZip Pro uses browser-local storage so the extension can work and remember your preferences.

  • Theme, accent color, button position, ZIP naming, ignore rules, and other extension settings.
  • Your selected GitHub access mode and any access token you choose to provide or authorize.
  • Download history, download statistics, and notification preferences.

This website cannot read data stored by the extension.

GitHub Access and Authorization

The extension accesses GitHub pages and the GitHub API to identify repositories, list directories, read files you select, check API limits, and create downloads.

If you choose GitHub OAuth, authorization is completed through GitHub's authorization flow. Repository files and download history are not uploaded as part of authorization. Anonymous mode and manually supplied tokens remain available.

Browser Permissions

  • storage: Saves settings, access tokens, and download history locally.
  • tabs: Identifies the active GitHub tab and opens related pages.
  • downloads: Saves generated ZIP files.
  • notifications: Shows download results when notifications are enabled.
  • contextMenus: Adds right-click download actions.
  • identity: Completes a GitHub OAuth flow that you explicitly start.

How We Use Data

  • To provide the selective download workflow you request.
  • To remember your settings and display local download history.
  • To access private repositories only when you authorize that access.

We do not sell personal information, upload repository content for advertising, or use the website to read extension data.

Retention and Your Choices

Locally stored data remains on your device until you clear it, reset the extension, remove an access token, or uninstall the extension. Download history can be cleared from the extension settings.

Third-Party Services

GitHub pages, APIs, and OAuth are governed by GitHub's privacy policy. Browser extension stores may process installation and store-visit data under their own policies.

Changes and Contact

We may update this policy when product behavior changes. The update date above will be revised when that happens.

For privacy questions, contact the maintainer through GitHub Issues.
